Driving along the aisle tree tunnel you emerge out on top of the hill, which overlooks the open views of Thurlestone Rock and Burgh Island. With 360 degree scenic views around the property complex, 9 The Downs is a great coastal holiday apartment. The 1900’s building is home to a few and is a very popular holiday destination due to the large surrounding gardens and gorgeous coastline scenery.

9 The Downs compliments your break with peace and relaxation with its ability to transcend you from the everyday stresses, into the tranquility of the natural beauty and fresh coastal air. Located well within South Hams, access and exploration of the neighbouring towns and sights could not be made easier.  With landmark scenery inclusive of the majestic and ancient Thurlestone Rock, the nearby Burgh Island with Art Deco hotel (Agatha Christie’s inspirational location for her novel ‘Evil Under The Sun’) and the beautiful golden sands of Bantham Beach, ever popular with families and surfers alike, this property is in a great location.

Situated above the village of Thurlestone, 9 The Downs is a ground floor apartment converted from the original dairy section of the hotel, dating back to 1907. Set in 4 acres of lawned gardens there are many secluded locations to settle down, admire the variety of sea views or settle into a good book surrounded by complete peace and quiet.

The entrance to the apartment is accessed via its own private courtyard.

You enter a spacious hallway and through to the light and airy living area. This lounge diner has a traditional decor with comfortable sofas and a corner bench dinner table. Equipped with a TV, DVD player and good selection of dvd’s. The property includes Wifi Internet throughout the property.

The adjoining spacious kitchen features the generic kitchen crockery and cutlery. Appliances include a dishwasher, kettle, toaster, oven and hob, combined fridge freeze and washing machine. All you need for creating a family feast is right to hand.

From the lounge leading back into the hallway, the property includes two bedrooms and a bathroom. This modernised property accommodates four guests comfortably. The first bedroom is an adult bunk bed room. The bedroom overlooks the pebbly courtyard at the back of the property and in the distance the coastline and countryside. Adjacent to this bedroom is the large bathroom, complete with an enclosed bath and overhead shower, basin, toilet, and heated towel rail. An airing shelf can be found in the bathroom cupboard.

To complete this apartment, at the end of the hallway, the master bedroom is found. This gorgeously bright bedroom boasts a large double bed, wardrobe space and a great view of the surrounding countryside.

Things to do

There are many other eateries including the Beach cafe which are also within walking distance. The coastal path and Thurlestone golf course are both directly accessible from the flat.

The ancient market town of Kingsbridge is just a short drive away, with many interesting shops to browse, places to eat, a museum, and a popular fortnightly farmers market beside the estuary.

Also just a short drive away is the beautiful harbour town of Salcombe, popular with sailors and with quirky shops and many places to eat out and enjoy the local seafood beside the water.

There is so much to see and do in the area you will need to return again and again to experience everything this magical part of South Devon has to offer.

Out and About

There is a bus stop in Thurlestone village opposite the shop with buses to Kingsbridge and Salcombe, however a car is recommended as the frequency of buses is quite sparse.

What our clients say about this property
What a view!! Well supplied flat, in a brilliant location. We could get to Bantham beach in under 10 minutes, spend the day, and come home to hot baths/showers.
