Accessibility Statement

For those with limited mobility, we have several properties that are accessible for holiday cottages and apartments. The number of disabled-friendly attractions around the country, as well as wonderful scenery and comfortable accommodation, means a self-catering cottage break offers something for everyone.

Whether you opt for a holiday cottage with ground-floor bedrooms and wet rooms, or you’re in need of ramps and rails, we want everyone to have a pleasant and enjoyable holiday in The South Hams.

You can find a variety of accessible holiday cottages and apartments with differing price ranges right here. It is important to carefully read the individual layouts and descriptions to ensure the property you choose is suitable for your requirements – accessibility and access can encompass a wide range of requirements for individual needs.

Whether you are less mobile and need assistance climbing stairs and steps, or are visually impaired, we will make every effort to provide you access to accessible holiday cottages that have elements to ensure that you have an unforgettable experience. The following cottages may be able to accommodate wheelchair users, disabled or accompanied carers. The facilities in these properties vary – some may simply have toilets or showers with wheelchair access, while others are equipped with ramps, wet rooms, and ground-floor bedrooms.

Butter Bay, Bantham – a 1-bedroom apartment with ramp access. Functional shower room with disabled access

Carew – Bantham – a 4-bedroomed property. Access to the property is either down a few steps or down a sloping lawn however once inside the property, the whole bungalow is suitable for those requiring a wheelchair. Features include large doorways, a spacious hallway, and a fully adapted wetroom bathroom. Carew also benefits from having interlinked bedrooms suitable for carer requirements.

The Coach House, Hope Cove – a 3-bedroomed property. After a small step into this property, The Coach House has 2 ground-floor bedrooms and a ground-floor shower room. The living area is open-plan.

Sherriffs – Bantham – a 3-bedroomed property. After a small step into the property, the accommodation is all on the ground floor and benefits from an ensuite shower room.

Our vision for inclusivity is to ensure we are listening to our different audiences and interested travellers, and we are communicating to all in a way that shows that every person is important to us, and we will respond to individual needs and interests.

We are committed to providing a welcoming and inclusive holiday experience for all our guests. Our individual holiday homes are designed to accommodate guests of all abilities, and we strive to ensure that everyone can enjoy a comfortable and memorable stay.

Our commitment to inclusion extends beyond the physical aspects of the holiday accommodation. We welcome guests of all backgrounds and identities, and we do not tolerate discrimination or harassment of any kind. We aim to create a safe and welcoming environment for all our guests to enjoy.

Young Children and Babies

We provide travel cots, highchairs, and stair gates completely free of charge, please let us know prior to arrival if you would like any of these items.

Journey

Clear directions are provided before travel. The nearest train stations are Totnes, Ivybridge and Plymouth. Cars can be hired from Totnes and Plymouth stations. A list of taxis can be provided upon request.

Sustainability Statement

Our Ethos

We know how important it is to recognise the importance of sustainability and environmental responsibility.  We work closely with our owners and local businesses to ensure we operate as sustainably and responsibly as we can. We support the local community by employing staff, housekeepers, and local trades, buying local, and encouraging our guests to buy local too.

Recycling & Waste

Packaging waste and especially plastic is top of everyone’s mind of course. We try to make recycling as easy as possible for our guests as the recycling procedure in The South Hams is very different from other parts of the country. We leave clear and concise instructions in the handbooks and the housekeepers ensure waste is in the appropriate containers as part of the changeover process. We aim to support the South Hams vision of Zero to Landfill.

Energy & Water Consumption

We ask our guests to be environmentally mindful during their stay, asking them to turn off lights and appliances when not needed. In the holiday properties, energy-saving devices are used where possible, and energy-efficient remotely controllable heating systems are utilised in many to help to avoid excessive, unnecessary waste of energy. The housekeepers ensure that all appliances and heating are switched off or lowered to the correct level during the changeover process.

Supporting the local economy

We encourage guests to buy local products and have days out without the car, using local transport and walking.  Compass Quay Coastal Holidays continuously build relationships with local suppliers and businesses to provide discounts and incentives which are passed on to the guests to encourage the use of local suppliers, businesses, and attractions.

Electric Charging

An increasing number of our properties are installing dedicated charging stations for electric cars.
